A Street Theatre group, based in Southampton, Hampshire, UK celebrating true local history
The Sarah Siddons Fan Club Theatre, take their name from the famous eighteenth-century super-star actress, who had a home in Southampton and often performed in the town. SSFC were founded to create site specific theatrical performances telling the history of Southampton and its region. These performances take place as street theatre or within historic settings which form the backdrop for our plays. All of our productions are based on actual historical events and people … but told in our own idiosyncratic way! Our summer shows are often inspired by anniversaries such as the sailing of the Titanic, Votes for Women, Jane Austen and early Black History. During covid when we could not perform in our traditional way we also expanded into film-making, which still reflected our aim to bring history to life links here to our past performances and to our films. In the winter our dramatic walks look at the dark underbelly of Southampton’s history and are performed at Halloween and around Christmas.
