  population had been preparing for invasion\, the men training at musters 
 and relying on the expertise of the town gunners who were based at God’s

 ’s House Tower was originally built to defend God’s House Gate and the
  town moat and provide a revolutionary gun battery designed to repel invad
 ers. In later years it became a prison and warehouse until it was restored
  and transformed by aspace arts into an arts &amp\; heritage centre. It co
 mbines contemporary art galleries with a permanent exhibition on the histo
 ry of the tower from the Middle Ages to the present day. It also has a caf
 é situated in the original gun powder store.
