In a twist worthy of the stage, King George III himself returns to Southampton—not to reclaim the colonies (he’s been advised against it), but to witness the grand unveiling of his statue at the historic Bargate. As His Majesty nears the end of his reign, he reflects—dramatically, and with no small amount of theatrical flair—on the great imperial heartbreak: the loss of America.
Beginning at St Michael’s Church, audiences will embark on a winding journey through Southampton’s Old Town, encountering a lively cast of characters who shaped (and occasionally bungled) the story of a nation. Expect surprise appearances from monarchs and revolutionaries, pilgrims and princesses, merchants and—brace yourself—spies. Yes, spies.
