2025 is the 250th anniversary of the birth of the author and sometime Southampton resident Jane Austen and there are many events happening across the year. The Sarah Siddons Fan Club were formed originally as an homage to the author’s favourite actor and we have been pleased to present several Austen related performances over the years and we did lead on the 2017 anniversary Southampton events.
For 2025 we are producing a whole new show and also helping to support some of our friends events serving as ushers, volunteering at Peartree, doing readings alongside guided walks and running box office for their events. There are lots of events happening across the city culminating in a big Jane Austen Birthday Regency Ball in December.
This sounds like an exciting year for Jane Austen fans! I love the idea of celebrating her legacy with such a variety of events. The Regency Ball in December must be the highlight—what kind of preparations are needed to attend? It’s great to see how the community is coming together to honor her work. I’m curious, are there any lesser-known events that might be worth checking out? It’s impressive how much effort is being put into making this anniversary special.
