The Reverend Shapcott is on a mission! The vicars of St Marys and Peartree have been receiving too much attention for their historical pageants, so the Reverend Shapcott is going to organise one for St Michaels! It is going to be all about the Tudors, particularly Queen Elizabeth I and the great trials the town suffered in1588! Its the 2nd August 1588 and the Spanish are sailing up the Channel, heading for the Isle of Wight – Southampton is on the Front Line and the Queen has asked for two ships!
Bit of a problem … the town only wants to send one, the mayor is being threatened with prison for privateering, the town is full of plague, there are spies everywhere and the beer is running out! Don’t Panic! Join the Reverend Shapcott in the battle to save England … we hope!
Tickets will be available soon for performances on 3, 4 & 5 August, at 7.30pm starting from St Michael’s Square.
And that’s not all on the 2nd of August there will be a study day giving you all the background research on this turbulent time, you can also take a traditional guided walk on the 6th August, download the Discovery & Empire self-guided walk route, visit God’s House Tower and find out more about the town gunners, with a special discount into the exhibition, alongside a talk and tower tour on the 7th August.
